Well I made the furtheast point.  The ferry from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia does not go to Halifax but to Yarmouth.  So that was out.  Next best Head East.

Quoddy Head and furthest east monument

Met another biker doing the same thing

That was final destination.  Time to go home.  Head back a bit to a campground in Columbia Falls.

All set for a night of rest

Road was a little rough but a nice place.  Shirley recently took it over and has started fixing it up.

My first fire
Shirley did this work
Shower room
We have that model in our bathroom

I was not in the need for a shower.  Well maybe I was.  Since the shower room was so nice I took a real long one.  Even had a place for my coffee.  Rode a bit of 1A right along the coast.

Met a local, Andrew

Andrew has been an adventurer in the area (Maine, New Hampsire, Vermont and Massachusets).  He gave me another road to take tomorrow as I head toward Bennington Vermont.  He lives in Salem now and will be a newly wed in January.

A place to remember
The Bird House
Tent camping, no RV’s
All set up
Fire was so nice posted twice
Pizza from Elmers

My favorite kitty growing up was Elmer.  Poor guy went camping with us and got lost. At least that is what I was told.

Don’t melt little Peep
Pizza water and gas

June 2nd heading south and west.  247 miles today.

Started off with a stop at the head quarters for Wreaths across America.  Of course not open on Sunday.  Not much is in Maine.

We have been involved with this for several years.  I even did a ride got the patch to prove it.  Had to hit the road so no tour.  Taking Hwy 1 to Belfast then turning west.  This part of Maine has so much coastline. This is due to all the fiords.  Much like Finland.  I ramdomly take a side trip down one of these and discover this.

Just a nice home

June 3rd 257 miles through New Hampshire and Vermont

Nice room last night.  Camping was $45 I spent less than $70 for a room.

Step up to the beroom
New owners are fixing it up

This mountain range is full of ski resorts.  White Mointains central east VT.  I count at least 9 seperate downhill ski areas.  First thing I did was sleep in. No, after that.  Headed to Mt Washington and rode up top.

Decent breeze that day

Tuesday June 4th 324 miles

I left the campground east of Bennington pretty early.  My friend Rich had me spend some time there and I found a few things myself.

Wednesday Jun 5th 373 miles today.  Brining total ride miles to 6,803.

Great nights sleep in the hammock. It was more comfortable then any night in the tent.

First use of my hammock
Well worth the early rise
Beautiful sunrise

Next stop Rock and Roll museum.  Well worth being in Cleveland. Rode freeway today to get a few miles in, make the museum, get out of town. Will avoid that type of riding as much as possible.  85 through Upstate NY was a nice road and I had it by myself.

John Prine’s lifetime achievement award

Dinner with Laura and Pat

Saturday June 8th.  Left Angola heading north.

Enjoyed the morning with coffee and Laura.

Me and Laura

The Clifton is a wonderful place on Lake James.  Rich and Laura such great hosts.  Rich filled me ideas for the next several days of travel.  These two world travelers have been almost everywhere. I headed out late today as sitting in the sun on the lake with Laura was so peaceful.

Lake James
First shot in MI
Lansing
State Capitol
Nice info on the capitol

In 1837 Michigan became the 26th state. Originally Detroit was chosen to be the capital.  The need to develope the east side of the state led to moving the capitol to Lansing in 1847.

Frankenmuth
Crazy huge Christmas store
It’s Christmas all year
About the size of four Home Depot’s
A Bavarian snack
Then the main course

As I was riding into Frankenmuth the rain started.  My goal was to stop in at Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland then another mile or so to the Bavarian for late lunch.  It turned out to be dinner at dinner time and more rain.  I was planning to camp somewhere in the Huron National Forest.

June 9th one month on the road.

Heading out of Frankenmuth to a reserved campsite in Mackenaw City.  First reservation made a few days ahead.  Overcast and still a bit wet but exepecting dry and cooler for the next few days.  4 hours taking the fryway or 4.5 following the coast of Lake Huron.  No brainer there.

Breakfast @ Baymont
This would be a nice addition while camping

I will be donning my thumals today for the first time.  heading north all day but next ride I will be back on a westword bound treck.

June 10th no riding today.

Camped last night and will return to site this evening.  Currently on a ferry heading to Mackinac Island in northern Lake Huron.

Big ole’ campsite

June 11th 304 miles. Mackenaw City to Iron Mountain.

I will be out of Michigan tomorrow.  This morning left Mackenaw City north crossing the Mackenaw Bridge.  Rode along the north coast of lake Michigan.  Followed hwy 2 up to 77 then went north again.

Mackenaw suspension bridge
Northern Lake Huron

The straights at the bridge seperate Lake Huron from Lake Michigan.

M-77 north to lake Superior at Grand Marais.  Then wrst along the coast through Pictured Rocks  National Lakeshore to Munising.

Wednesday June 12th.  302 miles all the way through Wisconsin.

Ended up just across the border in Minnesota. State park had a wonderful campground. I was at the point where ever there may be a place to rest my weary head I was ready. Weather all day was as perfect as it could be.  While trying to check into the heavely forested campground the mosquitos were out.  Of course the only way to check is via the web.

Hammock all set for a nice nightly rest
The peep watches over my setup

So I had to complete check in as fast as I could. To get to my bug juice I have to unload the back seat.  Thesez skeeters keep attacking.

Not only my back is bitten

My head, neck, arms and legs all bit up in the short time it took to get out the spray.  Once sprayed they held back.  As I was setting the hammock up the neighbor said that many of the mosquitos means storm is coming.  He said when it hits I am welcome to hang out inside his waterproof 2 room deluxe unit.

A life saver 2 room deluxe

Just a drizzle so I covered up everything that needs to stay dry.  I did good for a while under the thick canopy of big oak trees.  But when the torrent hit I hightailed to the tent.

June 13th 359 miles through the state of misquitos. Minnesota that is. Total milage to date. 8,770

Had a great breakfast around 11:30 continued on to South Dakota.  Finally landing in a nice American Inn By Wyndham.  Funny last Wyndham was a dump.  I took some note to write to them about that place.  One of the few I reserved the day before.  I guess they are slapping thier name on anything.

Grain silos and fields is about what I saw for most of the day.

Living this evening in Aberdeen and shooting for Belle Fourch tomorrow.

June 15th it’s Saturday 492 miles

Never got off 90. Guess it is not time for home yet.  Made it t Kellog Idaho.

June 16th Fathers day and last leg of a long journey

Great nights sleep and shower. New Grandson yesterday afternoon what a way to end the journey.  Good breakfast before leaving Kellog.

Have to hit Seattle for this little guy
Last meal

Milage to Seattle 370. Additional to add to total 1,442  10,212 total to Seattle.

Diego beat me.  He came into the world before I made Seattle but I was only a couple hours behind.

Grandpa and Diego

I am awake now. Made it home on the 14th.  Another 545 mile day.  Total 6 week ride 10,757 miles.
